This window is an example of how you might create a graphic layout of your home and then import it into XTension.

Graphic Views are created using any Macintosh paint/draw application which can save a file as a 'PICT' image. This drawing can be as complex or as simple as you wish.
From photographs to simple control panels, you can have as many different Views as you need.
After the 'PICT' image is created, you may then import it into XTension by pulling down the File menu and selecting 'New View'. You will be presented with a standard file selection dialog where you choose a name for the new image.
The file will be added to the XTension database with the name of the original 'PICT' image. You may later change the name of the View from the View Menu ( Rename View ).
Once the View is imported, you may place icons on it by dragging unit names from any List window onto the View window.
Notice that whenever a View window is the front window, you will see a menu bar item called "View"
From the View Menu you may select the "Edit units..." item. The dialog presented is useful when creating the View for the first time, or for adding/removing several units from the View.
Once you have assigned units to the View, you may elect to display the icons in three different sizes. The choices are presented in the View Menu, under the item "Icons ..." Views with many icons can be very visually 'noisy'. In such cases, you should choose 'small' or 'minimized' icons.
The names of icons in a View are normally hidden, except when one is selected. Holding down the Control key will temporarily show the names of all of the items, and a Command-H key combination will cause the names to remain until the next Command-H.
The current state of a unit in a View is reflected by its icon.
You can change the state of a unit from the View window by double-clicking on its icon.
Hitting Enter with an icon selected or option-double-clicking on an icon will bring up the Edit Unit dialog.
You can click and drag any icon around in the View window, to position it. You can also use the Arrow keys to nudge an icon by a pixel at a time.
Any time that you wish to remove an icon from a View, simply Drag it off of the View window to some desktop space. It will be removed from the View, but not from the database.
You can have as many Views as you wish, however you may have to increase the size of the XTension partition by selecting "Get Info" for the XTension program icon from the Finder.
